Write another poem
On the back of a napkin
Cut off all of your hair
Until you can’t look in the mirror
It came to me in a dream
I was standing in an empty street
And all of the buildings were on fire
You were there holding a lighter
We were both trying not to smile
I don’t ever speak your name
Not even when I’m alone
Or passing by your place
So many things have changed
I put them out of my mind
Except when I’m staring up
At the empty sky reminiscing
About the glory days
Sometimes I think I’m destined
To end up like Evelyn McHale
Eyes closed on the pavement
People asking what my name was
Too young and too beautiful
But I never thought
That you would ruin me for all eternity
It looks like I thought wrong
I played that hand and lost
Cashed my chips and walked off
I don’t ever speak your name
Not even when I’m alone
Or passing by your place
So many things have changed
I put them out of my mind
Except when I’m staring up
At the empty sky reminiscing
About the glory days
I don’t want to feel this way forever
I don’t want to carry around your pain
I don’t want to feel this way forever
I won’t dig my own grave
At least not in this place
